About
Hector Dox, M.D., is a cardio, thoracic and vascular surgeon at the Cardiovascular Institute of Southern Missouri, a part of Regional Physician Services.
With an extensive cardiovascular background, Dr. Dox’s areas of experience include open heart surgery for coronary artery bypass; aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve replacement and repair; and aortic arch interventions. He also provides lung surgery for malignant (cancerous), benign and infectious conditions, as well as carotid, aortic and peripheral vascular surgery.
Originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico, Dr. Dox received his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in San Juan, where he also completed his internship and residency in general surgery. He completed a second residency in cardiothoracic surgery at Ohio State University Medical Center followed by a fellowship in congenital heart surgery and transplantation at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center.
He holds certifications from the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery and is a member of the American Medical Association. Dr. Dox has served on the faculty at several medical schools including the University of New Mexico Health Science Center, UCLA Medical Center and as chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at San Rita’s Medical Center. Most recently, Dr. Dox served as cardiovascular & thoracic surgeon with Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
He and his wife, Carol, live in Poplar Bluff. In his free time he enjoys road and mountain biking, photography, music and Latin-American literature.
